When Sochi hosted the Olympics in 2014, official games sponsor Visa wanted to give 17 Russians the opportunity to win a trip for two to the games. Launched on the two biggest social networks in the country, users could sign-up for a virtual cross-country skiing competition. With over 6,000 km’s of data, the players who scrolled their way to Sochi online would find themselves there offline. Six races over six weeks concluded with one winner — the first across the finish line or the one with the greatest progress.
